Why isn't my abandoned cart automation collecting subscribers?

Answer

Abandoned cart automations are not a list growth tool, but rather are a way to re-engage high-intent subscribers after they abandon their cart.

Text messages from an abandoned cart automation are sent to subscribers who have compliantly opted in to your store's SMS program before abandoning their cart. Learn more about how to convert site visitors into subscribers here.

This is required for all cart recovery automations (e.g. Abandoned Cart, Browse Abandonment, Product Added to Cart, etc.).

If your brand uses Shopify's one page checkout, abandoned art automations will send once a customer compliantly opts into your SMS program by entering their phone number into the contact section of the checkout page and checking the Text me with news and offers. Once they abandon checkout, your abandoned cart automation will fire.

If your brand is utilizing Shopify's legacy multi-page checkout, subscribers need to explicitly and compliantly agreed to receive your brand's marketing SMS messages. Abandoned cart automation messages will begin sending after a subscriber:

    1. Adds items to their cart
    2. Navigates to checkout
    3. Enters their information into the Shipping page (including their phone number)
    4. Abandons checkout
