Send Custom Properties From Postscript's New Popups to Subscriber Profiles in Klaviyo

Who gets this? Shops on all Postscript plans have access to this feature. Learn more about Postscript Plans.

Postscript popups are a powerful (and compliant) way to collect SMS subscribers and custom properties. With an active Klaviyo integration, you can send custom properties collected with Postscript popups to subscriber profiles in Klaviyo.

Before We Begin

It's important to make sure your account is set up to properly pass data from Postscript to Klaviyo. Please review the following items before getting started.

  • In order for data to properly pass from Postscript to Klaviyo, please ensure the integration is configured correctly.
  • Make sure your Postscript popup is set up to collect emails. View these guides if you need support updating your desktop popup or mobile popup to collect email addresses.
  • Finally, make sure you've elected a Klaviyo list to forward Postscript popup-collected emails to. We discuss this in more detail below.
Note: You can also view the instructions for forwarding emails and custom properties to Klaviyo using Legacy popups here.

Forward Emails from Postscript Popups to Klaviyo Lists

To send custom properties to Klaviyo subscriber profiles, select a Klaviyo list for forwarding Postscript popup-collected emails.

  1. Select Acquisition in the side menu of your Postscript dashboard. Then select Popups.
  2. Select the popup from which you'd like to forward emails to Klaviyo.

    b. On the bottom left, select the [+] Add Blocks button.
    c. Under Data collection, drag and drop the Email input block to the appropriate location on the popup layer.
  4. In the list of layers along the top, select + Add.
  5. On the bottom left, select the [+] Add Blocks button.
  6. Under Data collection, drag and drop the Email input block to the appropriate location on the popup layer.
  7. Select the Email input text box on the popup layer. You will now see the details for the Email input block on the left. At the top, select Settings.
  8. Select the Forward to email app checkbox.

Forwarding Custom Properties to Profiles in Klaviyo

Merchants can also use popups to collect information from subscribers and pass that along to Klaviyo as well. Using the method detailed below, subscriber responses will be saved as custom properties in both Postscript and Klaviyo subscriber profiles.

  1. Select the popup layer where you would like to collect information from a subscriber.
  2. Edit an existing text block or add a new one for the question text by selecting the [+] button in the bottom right to Add Blocks. Then select the Text tile under General and drag it onto the layer. Next, add the text of the question (i.e. "How do you like your seltzer?").
  3. Now you can add a button for each possible answer. Select the [+] button in the bottom right to Add Blocks and then select the Button tile under General, dragging it onto the layer and placing it beneath the question text block.
  4. Select the button and edit the text in the Content text box in the upper left. This text must match the property value you want to set for the subscriber (i.e. "Bottle"). Note that the text displayed on each button will also be the custom property value and is case sensitive.
  5. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each custom property value option subscribers can choose from.
  6. Next, select the first button, and then select Settings in the top left.
  7. In the On click drop-down menu, select the Select form and navigate to a step option.
  8. In the Navigate to drop-down menu, select which layer you want the subscriber to see after they select this button.
  9. Select the Save a custom subscriber property checkbox.
  10. In the Subscriber property drop-down menu, select an existing property or select Create new custom subscriber property if you need to add a new one.
  11. Repeat steps 6 through 10 for each button on the popup layer.
  12. After adjusting the Settings for each button in the popup, select the Save button in the upper right.

What's Next

  • You can send custom properties and emails collected from different Postscript popups to different Klaviyo lists.
  • When a subscriber submits their information via Postscript popup, the custom properties will be forwarded to their email profile in Klaviyo if the integration is set up to forward collected emails to Klaviyo lists.
  • The property name in Klaviyo will be exactly the same as the property name in Postscript.
    • If the property name does not exist on the Klaviyo profile identified by the submitted email, it will be appended to the profile.
    • If the property name already exists on the Klaviyo profile identified by the submitted email, it will overwrite the existing value with the value in the popup submission.
  • All values are submitted as string/text.
  • Custom properties will be added to the Custom Properties field within the INFORMATION card on a subscriber's Klaviyo profile.
