Wherever you are in your list growth journey, Postscript’s Popup Editor makes website subscriber acquisition fast and easy. Use our code-free, responsive, drag-and-drop editor to create visually appealing desktop and mobile popups.
Postscript popups are a compliant and powerful way to convert site visitors to SMS subscribers so you can nurture them with a personalized SMS program throughout the customer lifecycle.
In this article, we guide you through how to create a mobile and desktop popup with Postscript’s new popup editor.
Create a Mobile or Desktop Popup
- From your Postscript Dashboard, select Acquisition. Then, select Popups.
- In the upper-right corner of the page, select Create.
- You will be directed to the Popup Template Library where you can choose from any of our professionally designed templates (Some templates may have a Recommended tag. These popups perform exceptionally well according to data we’ve collected).
- At the top of the editor, you will see the popup steps. By default, each template automatically includes:
- A micro-yes step to grab the visitor’s attention and incentivize them to continue into the popup
- The Onsite Opt-in phone collection and one-time password step
- An email collection step
- A thank you/completion step
- And a Teaser which displays how the popup will look when minimized
-
Each step can be dragged into a new order to match the flow you’d like to use
- At the top right of the editor, you will find a toggle button that allows you to switch between Mobile and Desktop views of your popup.
- In the next section, we'll guide you through how to manage the behavior, targeting, theme, and layers of your popup.
Customize Your Popup
At the bottom left of the editor, you will find button icons for Settings, Theme Styles, Layers, and Add Block. Let's walk through each.
Under Behavior, you can define when and where your popup appears. Enter the Dialog Name, set a Trigger, and Include pages or Exclude pages where you do or do not want your popup to display.
Merchants can also use Behavior settings to include or exclude specific audiences based on Urchin Tracking Modules (UTMs) appended to URLs. Simply add any UTMs you want to trigger the popup to the Include pages list, or add any UTMs you specifically do not want to trigger the popup by adding them to the Exclude pages list.
Within Targeting, brands can define the audience that will see each popup, filtering by Subscriber status, Customer status, and Location, as well as the customer's device type.
To target based on Subscriber status, select from the following options in the drop-down menu:
- Show to all visitors
- Show only to known subscribers
- Show only to unknown subscribers
- Show only to email subscribers
- Show only to SMS subscribers
- Show only to visitors who are subscribed to both email and SMS
To target based on Customer status, select from the following options in the drop-down menu:
- Show to all visitors
- Show only to visitors who have made a purchase
- Show only to visitors who have not made a purchase
To target based on Location, select whether to target based on inclusion or exclusion by selecting Located in or Outside of. Then add additional countries by selecting them from the drop-down menu on the right (and remove them by selecting the X next to the country name). By default, popups are shown everywhere.
To target based on device type, select one of the following options from the Display on devices drop-down menu:
- Mobile and Desktop
- Desktop only
- Mobile only
The Message tab allows merchants to edit the text message that will be sent to a subscriber after opting in with a popup.
Access Theme styles by selecting the paint icon on the bottom left. Merchants can make global changes here that will be reflected throughout each step of the popup, so you only have to make these changes once. Note that Mobile and Desktop images must be replaced separately due to the differing aspect ratios required within each.
Theme Styles also allow merchants to add custom fonts to popups.
- To add a custom font, navigate to the Text drop-down, and locate the Font field within Theme styles.
- Select + Add Font located at the top of the dropdown menu
- You will be prompted to add a link to a web-hosted font.
- Note: Accepted file types are .woff, .woff2, .ttf, and .otf. For more information on importing fonts, read this article.
Within Layers, easily navigate through each element of your popup and utilize the drag-and-drop functionality to move elements around.
If you are collecting emails, you will want to set up Email Forwarding.
- Navigate to your email collection step.
- Select Layers at the bottom left of your screen.
- Select Email input.
- At the top of the Navigation pane, you will see Settings.
- Ensure Forward to email app box is checked.
- Select your connected ESP in the Email app field.
- Select the email list from your selected email service provider you’d like the emails collected from this popup to be forwarded to.
Add Blocks allows you to include additional elements, such as a text box, heading, image, button, email input, or container, to your design by dragging and dropping the desired element into your popup.
Once satisfied with the popup design and functionality, navigate to the activation toggle at the top right of your screen. Select the toggle to move it to the Active position. And you're all set to begin collecting subscribers with your Postscript popup!
