Abandoned cart messages target individuals who've added one or more items to their shopping cart but have not completed their purchase.
With an abandoned cart automation, you can automatically reach out to these shoppers, remind them of their purchase, and link them back to their cart. Simply create your abandoned cart automation once and let Postscript do the rest.
How this Abandoned Cart Benefits You
- Target shoppers with a specific item in their abandoned cart. You can personalize the message around the item and remind customers what they'd be missing out on.
- Actively engage customers with a limited edition or release item in their cart. You can create a heightened sense of urgency in your message, such as We'd hate for you to miss out! or This item is going FAST!
Choose the Automation Triggers and Filters
Every abandoned cart automation should start with the basics: Automation Trigger as Checkout Started and Cancellation Trigger as Order Created.
From here, you'll add a Trigger Filter, which lets you specify the characteristics of the shopping carts (and their shoppers) that you want to receive this abandoned cart automation.
- Select Yes from the Trigger Filters drop-down.
- Select + Add Filter.
- Select the + Add Filter Field drop-down, then select Line Items.
- Select + Add Entry.
- Choose SKU or Product Title.
- Enter the SKU or Product Title of the item.
- With SKU, select the Equals refinement criteria and enter the SKU for the specific item.
- With Product Title, you can enter the item name. If you choose the Equals refinement criteria, then you will need to enter the exact name of the product. If you choose Contains, you can enter part of the item name (e.g., lipstick, kids, coat, etc.). This can be helpful if you want to target items in a collection.
- Select Save & Continue to Messages in the bottom-right corner of the page.
Create Your Message
It's important to get your abandoned cart message right since carrier regulations allow you to send only one message within 48 hours of a shopper abandoning their cart.
- Include a product photo. Since you are targeting a specific item, feature it in a product photo or GIF. Give subscribers a visual reminder of what they'd be missing out on if they didn't complete their order.
- Add personalization with message tags. Add dynamic tags such as {first_name} so that the sent message populates with the subscriber's first name. It's a simple and effective way to build rapport and trust with your customers.
- Create a sense of urgency. Use your message copy to create a sense of urgency around the cart. Popular examples include This offer expires at midnight! or These products are going fast—get yours before they're gone!
- Link directly to a subscriber's cart. Add a dynamic abandoned cart link that will auto-apply the discount and allow the subscriber to click right back into their shopping cart from your text message.
- Offer an incentive (not pictured). Whether you choose to offer an incentive might depend on the product, your margins, and/or your shop strategy. You can add a unique coupon code using the More drop-down that will auto-apply at checkout.
