What You Need to Know
Add to cart abandonment automations send after a cookied subscriber adds an item to their cart. Due to how cookied sessions are captured, it may take a shopper up to 30 minutes to enter your add to cart abandonment.
Subscribers can only enter an add to cart abandonment automation once every 72 hours. This is a guardrail put in place to protect your subscribers from an excess of messages (and keep your unsubscribe rates low).
At this time, add to cart abandonment automations follow the same guidelines as an abandoned cart automation:
The automation can only contain one message.
This message should send within 48 hours of the browsing session.
Create an Add to Cart Abandonment Automation
For an add to cart abandonment automation, you'll first need to select your automation trigger then write your automation message.
Pick Your Automation Trigger Create Automation Message
For your Automation Trigger, select Product Added to Cart.
Select Yes from the Cancellation Trigger drop-down, then select Checkout Started.
If you wish to create an automation that targets a specific group of browsing shoppers, then select Yes from the Trigger Filters drop-down.
Select + Add Filter and + Add Filter Field, then define your criteria.
For example, above we chose Price greater than $50.00. This automation will send to shoppers who added an item with a value greater than $50.00.
Select Save & Continue to Messages to proceed to your message.
Set a Wait delay. Let Postscript know when to send this message. Remember, it has to send within 48 hours of the subscriber adding the item to their cart (and not starting that checkout process!).
Include a dynamic product photo. Give subscribers a visual reminder of what they'd be missing out on if they didn't complete their order. If there is more than one item added to the cart, Postscript will feature the most expensive item. Select the purple More drop-down and choose Add Dynamic Product Photo.
Add personalization with message tags. Message tags are a simple and effective way to build rapport and trust with your customers.
Add dynamic tags such as {first_name} so that the sent message populates with the subscriber's first name.
Tags like {product_name} also help speak directly to the shopper's browsing experience.
Use {shop_link} to link the shopper back to your store
Add {instant_checkout_link} to let the subscriber skip straight to the checkout process. Learn more here.
Create a sense of urgency. Use your message copy to create a sense of urgency around the cart. For example, Last time {product_name} was in stock, it sold out in a day! or Did you know? {product_name} is limited edition! Don't miss out.
Link directly to your shop. Make it easy for the shopper to pick up where they left off! Select the purple More drop-down and select Add Tag to add a link.
Tip: Due to the way browsing sessions are captured, it can take up to 30 minutes for a subscriber to enter an add to cart abandonment automation. You may wish to take this into consideration when setting message wait delays.
For example, if you wish for a subscriber to receive their automation 2 hours after adding an item to their cart (and not starting the checkout process), then you would set the Wait delay for 90 minutes instead of 2 hours.
