Recharge is the leading subscriptions payments platform designed for merchants to set up and manage dynamic recurring billing across the web and mobile.
Once you have enabled and set up your Recharge integration, you can create Recharge automation flows using specific Recharge triggers and message tags.
How Recharge Automation Flows Benefit You
- Send abandoned cart flows to customers who do not complete their checkout.
- Quickly notify subscribers when their recurring payment doesn't process.
- Give subscribers the option to add an item to an upcoming subscription shipment.
- Allow subscribers to skip their upcoming shipment via text.
Abandoned Cart Automation Flow
With a Recharge Abandoned Cart automation flow, you can target potential customers who do not complete their checkout process via your Recharge checkout. All abandoned cart flows must contain a single message that is scheduled to send within 48 hours of the trigger event, per carrier guidelines. You can learn more about these guidelines here.
- Select Messaging in the side menu of your Postscript dashboard, then select Flow Builder.
- Select Create Flow in the top-right corner of the page.
- Choose Automation, then select Continue.
- Select Create a new automation, then select Create Flow.
- Give your automation a name. We recommend you give it a name that indicates its purpose (i.e. Recharge - Abandoned Cart).
- In the Automation properties editor, locate the Add a subscriber if drop-down.
- For stores using Recharge Checkout on Shopify checkout platform, select Recharge - Checkout Started.
- For stores using Shopify's Checkout platform, select Checkout Started.
- In the Automation properties editor, locate the Remove a subscriber if drop-down and select Recharge - Order Created (tip: since we want to target those who start, but do not finish the checkout process, adding a cancellation event will remove a subscriber if they place an order).
- Add other automation properties (i.e. subscriber frequency filter, subscriber filters, trigger filters, etc.) as needed. Learn more about automation properties here.
- Select Save in the bottom right corner of the Automation properties editor.
- Once you've saved your automation properties, drag the Send Message action from the Drag & Drop menu on the left-hand side and drop it into your flow.
- Craft your message by adding text to the message editor on the left-hand side. You can also add an image or gif to the message by dragging and dropping the media in the Add Image or Gif box at the top of the editor. Tip: Use giphy.com to find gifs you can add to your messages.
- Add a link to the customer's abandoned cart by selecting the tag icon on the bottom right of the message editor and clicking Event - Abandoned Cart Link.
- Once done, save the message by selecting Save in the bottom-right corner of the editor.
- Save the entire automation flow by clicking Save Changes in the upper-right corner of the page.
-
If you're ready to send your flow, select Schedule or Activate in the top-right corner of the page. You have two options when sending a flow:
- Activate immediately: This option will immediately begin the flow allowing subscribers to enter the automation based on the selected properties.
- Activate at a scheduled time and date: Choose when you'd like the flow to begin allowing subscribers to enter.
Charge Failed Automation Flow
With a Charge Failed flow, you can quickly notify customers via SMS when Recharge cannot process their subscription payment.
Recharge - Failed Charge).
- In the Automation properties editor, locate the Add a subscriber if drop-down and select Recharge - Charge Failed.
- Add other automation properties (i.e. subscriber frequency filter, subscriber filters, trigger filters, etc.) as needed. Learn more about automation properties here.
- Select Save in the bottom right corner of the Automation properties editor.
We recommend that your Charge Failed flow contains a single message that alerts the customer to the failed charge and provides a link to log in to their account and update their payment information. Postscript will shorten the login link for you.
- Once you've saved your automation properties, drag the Send Message action from the Drag & Drop menu on the left-hand side and drop it into your flow.
- Craft your message by adding text to the message editor on the left-hand side.
- Add a link for the customer to update their billing information by selecting the tag icon on the bottom right of the message editor and clicking Event - Update Billing Info Link.
Guide to Recharge Automation Flow Triggers and Tags
A trigger is an event that kicks off an automation flow. For example, if you would like a subscriber to receive your automation flow after they place an order through Recharge, the trigger, Recharge - Order Created, is what adds the subscriber to the automation queue and kicks off the automation for that subscriber.
Tags are dynamic personalization fields that can be added to your messages in order to customize the experience subscribers have with your brand. Examples of tags are abandoned cart links, your shop link, or a link that redirects customers to Recharge where they can update their billing information. Tags can also be dynamic placeholders that populate subscribers' first or last names.
