Have you set up your Mailchimp integration? Before sending email data to Mailchimp, be sure you've set up your integration. You can learn how to connect Mailchimp and Postscript here.
Postscript popups continue to be a powerful (and compliant) way to collect SMS subscribers. But did you know that in addition to collecting phone numbers, you can also configure your Postscript popup to collect email? And if you have an active Mailchimp integration, you can send that email data to Mailchimp.
Before We Begin
It's important to make sure your account is set up to properly pass data from Postscript to Mailchimp. Please review the following items before getting started.
In order for data to properly pass from Postscript to Mailchimp, please ensure the integration is configured correctly.
Make sure your Postscript popup is set up to collect emails and custom properties. View these guides if you need support updating your popups.
Ensure you've selected a Mailchimp list to forward Postscript popup-collected emails to. We discuss this in more detail below.
Finally, in order for custom properties to be forwarded to Mailchimp, the Audience Field in Mailchimp needs to be pre-defined. We also discuss this in more detail below.
Forward Emails from Postscript Popups to Mailchimp Lists
To send custom properties to Mailchimp subscriber profiles, select a Mailchimp list for forwarding Postscript popup-collected emails.
Select Acquisition in the side menu of your Postscript dashboard. Then select Popups.
Select the popup from which you'd like to forward emails to Mailchimp.
If this popup already collects email addresses, skip to the email collection step. If not, you can add an email collection layer to the popup:
In the list of layers along the top, select + Add.
On the bottom left, select the [+] Add Blocks button.
Under Data collection, drag and drop the Email input block to the appropriate location on the popup layer.
Select the Email input text box on the popup layer. You will now see the details for the Email input block on the left. At the top, select Settings.
Select the Forward to email app checkbox.
Select Mailchimp from the Email app drop-down menu.
Select one or more mailing lists from the Email lists drop-down menu.
Select Save in the upper right.
Defining Audience Fields in Mailchimp
The corresponding property in Mailchimp called Audience Field needs to be pre-defined before forwarding custom properties. Then, the custom property within Postscript needs to be the exact same as the associated Audience Field name within Mailchimp.
From your Mailchimp admin, select Audiences on your left-side navigation panel.
Select All contacts. Then select the Settings tab. Choose Audience fields and *MERGE* tags.
Select the Add A Field button to add your property and custom field.
Label your field, then under the Put this tag in your content column, add your subscriber property. Keep in mind, this subscriber property needs to be verbatim what's listed as the subscriber property in Postscript (tip: in this example, we use SKN_CNCRN).
Select the Save Changes button.
Set Up Custom Property Collection in Postscript
Merchants can also use popups to collect information from subscribers and pass that along to Mailchimp as well. Using the method detailed below, subscriber responses will be saved as custom properties in both Postscript and Mailchimp subscriber profiles.
Select the popup layer where you would like to collect information from a subscriber.
Edit an existing text block or add a new one for the question text by selecting the [+] button in the bottom right to Add Blocks. Then select the Text tile under General and drag it onto the layer. Next, add the text of the question (i.e. "How do you like your seltzer?").
Now you can add a button for each possible answer. Select the [+] button in the bottom right to Add Blocks and then select the Button tile under General, dragging it onto the layer and placing it beneath the question text block.
Select the button and edit the text in the Content text box in the upper left. This text must match the property value you want to set for the subscriber (i.e. "Bottle"). Note that the text displayed on each button will also be the custom property value and is case sensitive.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each custom property value option subscribers can choose from.
Next, select the first button, and then select Settings in the top left.
In the On click drop-down menu, select the Submit form and navigate to a step option.
In the Navigate to drop-down menu, select which layer you want the subscriber to see after they select this button.
Select the Save a custom subscriber property checkbox.
Under Subscriber property, add the property name that you added to your Mailchimp account earlier in this article. In this example, we use "SKN_CNCRN" (reminder: This subscriber property needs to be verbatim what's listed in Mailchimp).
Once your subscriber property is listed the same in Postscript as it is in Mailchimp, you can save your changes by selecting Save in the upper-right corner of the popup editor.
When subscribers fill out your popup, their custom property will be sent to Mailchimp.
