Segments help merchants target subscribers and shoppers based on historical data, ensuring the right message is sent to the right person at the right time.
Why You Should Use Segments
- Segments allow merchants to engage specific parts of their shopper and subscriber base with personalized experiences.
- Make segments as general or specific as you want (ex: Shoppers with a total spend less than $100 vs. Shoppers with a total spend less than $100 who have purchased red lipstick, coral lipstick, blush lipstick, and berry lipstick products).
- Segments can boost ROI by making it easy to target shoppers with cross-sells, product recommendations, loyalty offers, or win-back campaigns.
Create a Segment
- Select Messaging in the side menu of your Postscript dashboard, then select Segments.
- Select Create Segment in the top-right corner of the page.
Below details the segment targeting process. In the example below, this segment is for subscribers who subscribed on or after a specific date but haven't placed an order yet.
- Name your segment. Choose a name describing the segment targets, such as "Subscribers with No Orders" since that's the exact cohort the merchant wants to reach.
- Define your criteria. Select criteria from the drop-down list and a corresponding parameter (greater than, includes, etc.). Enter a value in the empty field.
-
Add additional criteria. Additional criteria help further narrow down the intended subset of customers. Add criteria using AND or OR statements.
- AND Example: Shoppers who have spent over $50.00 AND have never received a text from the merchant.
- OR Example: Shoppers who have purchased a T-shirt OR shoppers who have purchased a sweatshirt.
- Review segment size. While applying criteria, the Segment Size number will adjust. If the amount doesn't look correct, double-check the criteria.
- Select Save Segment.
Note: Postscript creates default segments such as “All US/CANADA Customers and Subscribers” and “Customers Texted More Than Once”. These segments populate for every subscriber and cannot be deleted.
Example Segments
Target your biggest spenders
Reach out to VIPs based on how many times they've made purchases and target them with upcoming product drops or promotions.
Target at-risk shoppers
Reach loyal shoppers who have gone quiet. In this example, a merchant can target shoppers with at least three past purchases but none in the last 60 days with a campaign offering a coupon or free shipping offer.
Cross-sell
Send cross-sell promotions to shoppers based on their purchase history. For example, when debuting a new honey flavor, create a segment of all previous honey buyers. By creating a filter for each honey product with OR in between, the segment includes every shopper who has purchased any of these products.
Target based on keyword
Send special campaigns, promotions, or messages to shoppers who opted in with a specific keyword. Add as many keyword triggers as you'd like to the same segment.
You should now be all set to get started with segments!
