RCS messages let subscribers interact with rich content directly inside their native messaging app and webview support takes that a step further by keeping them inside the conversation while they browse landing pages, complete checkout, or take other actions.
Webviews are configured through the Open Link action, available on both Card Buttons and Suggested Actions. Merchants can choose from three display modes — Full (takes over the entire screen), Tall (three-quarter view), or Half (split screen with the message thread still visible below). If a subscriber's device or carrier doesn't support webviews, the link gracefully falls back to the default browser so there's never a broken experience.
This guide walks you through how to configure webviews, the differences between each display mode, and best practices for choosing the right one.
Open Links in a Webview (RCS)
When you add an Open Link action to an RCS message, you can choose to open the URL in a webview instead of launching the subscriber's default browser. A webview loads the linked page directly inside the message thread, so subscribers stay in the conversation while they browse. It works like a normal browser — it just opens inside the thread instead of in the subscriber's default browsing app.
This is especially useful for checkout flows, landing pages, order tracking, or any link where you want to reduce the chance of a subscriber dropping off by leaving the thread.
Webview Display Modes
You can choose how much of the subscriber's screen the webview takes up. There are three display modes:
Full — The webview takes over the entire screen. Best for checkout flows or content-heavy pages where the subscriber needs full focus.
Tall — The webview covers roughly three-quarters of the screen. The message thread is partially visible behind it.
Half — The webview takes up the bottom half of the screen. The message thread remains visible above, so the subscriber can reference the conversation while browsing.
How to Set Up a Webview on an Open Link Action
Open your flow in Flow Builder (campaign or automation).
Add or open an RCS Send Message action.
Add a Card Button or Suggested Action and select Open Link as the action type.
Enter your destination URL.
Toggle Open URL in Webview to on.
Select your display mode: Full, Tall, or Half. A preview will show you how the webview renders on-device.
Click Add, then save your message.
Your subscribers will now see the linked page open inside the message thread when they tap the button or suggested action.
Fallback Behavior
If a subscriber's device or carrier doesn't support webviews, the link automatically opens in their default browser instead. There's nothing extra to configure — the fallback is handled automatically, and no subscribers will see a broken experience.
Note: The webview experience may vary across your subscriber base depending on device and carrier support. Some subscribers will get the in-thread webview, while others will be redirected to their browser.
Things to Know
Webviews work on both Card Buttons and Suggested Actions — any Open Link action can be configured to use a webview.
You choose the display mode per action — different buttons in the same message can use different display modes if needed.
Webview support is specific to RCS messages. It does not apply to SMS or MMS.
