Create a Collapsible FAQ Page in Shopify

You can create a collapsible FAQ page in your Shopify store using the built-in theme editor and page templates. Shopify's theme editor makes it easy to add this feature—no custom coding required.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to create a new FAQ page and customize it using Shopify’s built-in features.

Step 1: Create a New Page Template


  1. From your Shopify admin, select Online Store > Themes.
  2. Select Customize on your live theme to open the theme editor.
  3. In the theme editor, open the Pages drop-down menu at the top.
  4. Select Create Template, then choose Based on: default page.
  5. Name your new template (e.g., FAQ) and select Create Template.

Note: If you see content from another page in the preview, that’s expected—this content will be replaced with your new FAQ section once you set it up.

Step 2: Add a Collapsible FAQ Section


  1. In the left-hand sidebar of the theme editor, select Add Section.
  2. Search for Collapsible Content and select it.
    • This section is available in free Shopify themes like Dawn.
    • For premium themes, the section may be named differently.
    • If your theme doesn't include this feature, you can use a third-party app.
  3. Once added, select the section to begin customizing:
    • Add a caption or heading for your FAQ section.
    • Adjust design settings as needed.
  4. To add a new FAQ item:
    • Select Add Block.
    • Choose Collapsible Row or a similar block type.
    • Enter a heading (question) and content (answer) for each FAQ.

Step 3: Adjust Section Padding (Optional)


To remove excess space around your FAQ section:

  1. Select the Collapsible Content section.
  2. Scroll down to Section Padding.
  3. Set Top Padding to 0px.
  4. Select into the Page section and set Bottom Padding to 0px as well.

Step 4: Create the FAQ Page


  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages.
  2. Select Add Page.
  3. Enter a page title (e.g., “FAQ”).
  4. Leave the content area blank—your template will populate it automatically.
  5. Under Theme Template, choose the new template you created earlier (e.g., page.faq).
  6. Select Save.

Step 5: Add the FAQ Page to Your Navigation


  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Navigation.
  2. Choose the menu you’d like to add the FAQ page to (e.g., Main Menu).
  3. Select Add Menu Item.
  4. Enter a name (e.g., “FAQ”) and link it to the page you just created.
  5. Select Add, then Save Menu.

Once added, your new FAQ page will appear on your storefront with a clean, collapsible layout—making it easy for shoppers to find the info they need.
