You can create a collapsible FAQ page in your Shopify store using the built-in theme editor and page templates. Shopify's theme editor makes it easy to add this feature—no custom coding required.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to create a new FAQ page and customize it using Shopify’s built-in features.
Step 1: Create a New Page Template
- From your Shopify admin, select Online Store > Themes.
- Select Customize on your live theme to open the theme editor.
- In the theme editor, open the Pages drop-down menu at the top.
- Select Create Template, then choose Based on: default page.
- Name your new template (e.g., FAQ) and select Create Template.
Note: If you see content from another page in the preview, that’s expected—this content will be replaced with your new FAQ section once you set it up.
Step 2: Add a Collapsible FAQ Section
- In the left-hand sidebar of the theme editor, select Add Section.
- Search for Collapsible Content and select it.
- This section is available in free Shopify themes like Dawn.
- For premium themes, the section may be named differently.
- If your theme doesn't include this feature, you can use a third-party app.
- Once added, select the section to begin customizing:
- Add a caption or heading for your FAQ section.
- Adjust design settings as needed.
- To add a new FAQ item:
- Select Add Block.
- Choose Collapsible Row or a similar block type.
- Enter a heading (question) and content (answer) for each FAQ.
Step 3: Adjust Section Padding (Optional)
To remove excess space around your FAQ section:
- Select the Collapsible Content section.
- Scroll down to Section Padding.
- Set Top Padding to 0px.
- Select into the Page section and set Bottom Padding to 0px as well.
Step 4: Create the FAQ Page
- From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages.
- Select Add Page.
- Enter a page title (e.g., “FAQ”).
- Leave the content area blank—your template will populate it automatically.
- Under Theme Template, choose the new template you created earlier (e.g., page.faq).
- Select Save.
Step 5: Add the FAQ Page to Your Navigation
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Navigation.
- Choose the menu you’d like to add the FAQ page to (e.g., Main Menu).
- Select Add Menu Item.
- Enter a name (e.g., “FAQ”) and link it to the page you just created.
- Select Add, then Save Menu.
Once added, your new FAQ page will appear on your storefront with a clean, collapsible layout—making it easy for shoppers to find the info they need.
