Recharge is the leading subscriptions payments platform designed for merchants to set up and manage dynamic recurring billing across the web and mobile.
Once you have enabled and set up your Recharge integration, you can create Recharge automations using specific Recharge automation triggers and message tags.
Why You Want to Create Recharge Automations
- Send abandoned cart automations for customers who do not complete their checkout.
- Quickly notify subscribers when their recurring payment doesn't process.
- Give subscribers the option to add an item to an upcoming subscription shipment.
- Allow subscribers to skip their upcoming shipment via text.
Abandoned Cart Automation
With a Recharge Abandoned Cart automation, you can target potential customers who do not complete their checkout process via your Recharge checkout.
- Select Messaging in the side menu of your Postscript dashboard, then select Automations.
- Select Create Automation in the top-right corner of the page, then choose Custom Automation.
- Name your automation.
- From the Automation Trigger drop-down, select Recharge: Checkout Started.
- Under Cancellation Trigger, select Yes.
- From the Cancel automation if drop-down, select Recharge: Order Created.
- To continue, select Save & Continue to Messages in the bottom-right corner of the page.
All abandoned cart automations must contain a single message that is scheduled to send within 48 hours of the trigger event, per carrier guidelines. You can learn more about these guidelines here.
You can customize your message with a photo, GIF, and/or emojis. You want to make sure you also include an abandoned cart link.
- Place your typing cursor where you want the tag to go in the message.
- Select the blue More button above the message field, then select Add Tag from the options listed.
- Choose Abandoned Cart Link from the options listed, then select Insert Tag.
- You can see the tag in the message field and can preview how it will display to your subscriber in the dynamic phone preview on the right side of the page. Postscript will shorten the link for you.
Save your message, then head back to your Automations list. Locate your Recharge Abandoned Cart automation and enable it by selecting the Enabled toggle.
Charge Failed Automation
With a Charge Failed automation, you can quickly notify customers via SMS when Recharge cannot process their subscription payment. We recommend your Charge Failed automation contain a single message to reduce customer confusion if the subscriber updates their payment method between receiving the first and second messages.
- Select Messaging in the side menu of your Postscript dashboard, then select Automations.
- Select Create Automation in the top-right corner of the page, then choose Custom Automation.
- Name your automation.
- From the Automation Trigger drop-down, select Recharge: Charge Failed.
- To continue, select Save & Continue to Messages in the bottom-right corner of the page.
Save your message, then head back to your Automations list. Locate your Charge Failed automation and enable it by selecting the Enabled toggle.
Reply to Buy Automation
With a Reply to Buy automation, you give subscribers the option to add a one-time purchase item. This function will create a new order for the subscriber. In other words, this one-time purchase item will not be appended to their existing subscription. It will create a new order in addition to their subscription.
In order to offer a product in a Reply to Buy automation, you should first create a ruleset in Recharge that allows the product to be a one-time purchase item.
- Select Messaging in the side menu of your Postscript dashboard, then select Automations.
- Select Create Automation in the top-right corner of the page, then choose Custom Automation.
- Name your automation.
- From the Automation Trigger drop-down, select Recharge: Upcoming Charge (3 days).
- To continue, select Save & Continue to Messages in the bottom-right corner of the page.
When you create your Reply to Buy offer, you must specify the Shopify product, variant, quantity, and price as part of your message. Customers cannot change the offer.
- Place your typing cursor where you want the Reply to Buy tag to go in the message.
- Select the blue More button above the message field, then select Add Reply to Buy from the options listed.
- Choose the product, variant, quantity, and price, then select Save.
The {reply_to_buy} tag will display a summary of the item offered as well as instructions for the customer to reply:
- YES. Postscript will attempt to make the purchase through the Recharge API and return a success or failure text to the user.
- ADDRESS. Postscript always uses the most recent address associated with the customer in Recharge. Customers can reply YES without replying ADDRESS.
Save your message, then head back to your Automations list. Locate your Reply to Buy automation and enable it by selecting the Enabled toggle.
Reply to Buy deals remain active and available for purchase until any of the following occurs:
- You disable an automation;
- You change or remove the Reply to Buy deal in an automation message;
- or Postscript sends a new automation or campaign message to the customer. If the new automation message contains a different Reply to Buy deal, that deal will become the active offer.
Reply to Skip Automation
With a Reply to Skip automation, you give subscribers the option to skip an upcoming subscription charge.
When you edit your automation message, simply select the Support Reply-to-Skip checkbox beneath the automation delay. This inserts the "Reply SKIP to skip your order" language to your message (as seen highlighted in blue above).
When Postscript receives a SKIP response, we will attempt to skip the charge through Recharge's API, and will reply to the user with a success or failure message.
Save your message, then head back to your Automations list. Locate your Reply to Skip automation and enable it by selecting the Enabled toggle.
