Postscript popups can be triggered at different moments in the subscriber's customer journey. Triggering a popup on exit intent is an excellent way to entice shop visitors with an additional engagement opportunity before they switch away from the site. Used in conjunction with other popup triggers, such as time delays, merchants ensure they're driving visitors to convert.

How Exit Intent Popups Work

Popups set up to be triggered on exit intent will be displayed to visitors when they:

  • Move the cursor away from the shop's browser window (desktop only)

  • Switch browser tabs

  • Scroll up

  • Are idle

Exit intent popups are only shown once per session and will be suppressed if another popup is already open to avoid stacking. If the popup has a teaser, it will not persist across pages if closed.

Setting an Exit Intent Trigger for a Popup

  3. In the Behavior tab, under Trigger, select Exit intent from the drop-down menu.

  4. Next, under Include pages, enter the specific pages where this popup should appear (or leave it blank to have it appear on all pages.

  5. Under Exclude pages, add any pages where this popup should NOT appear.

  6. Select whether or not to close popup when clicking outside of it, then edit the Popup cooldown period if necessary, which defines the delay between when this popup is closed and another can launch.
