Clone an Automation Flow

Automation flows let merchants send contextual and personalized messages at every step of the subscriber journey. These flows run in the background so brands can maintain subscriber engagement on autopilot. In this article, we'll walk through how to clone an automation flow.

Why Clone an Automation Flow

Creating an automation flow from scratch can be time-consuming, so we've made it even easier to create automation flows with our clone automation flows feature.

  • Create a copy of an automation flow and change the user filter. For example, if you have an automation flow with a specific form trigger, you can clone the series and assign a different form.
  • Build a library of automation flow templates (ex: loyalty offer, customer winback, welcome series). Clone the template and adjust triggers, subscriber filters, product links, and messaging.
  • Run A/B tests on variations of an automation flow. Try different messages, promotions, or visuals and see which automation flows perform better.

Clone an Automation Flow

  1. Select Messaging in the side menu of your Postscript dashboard, then select Automations. The Automation Flows tab will be selected by default.
  2. Locate the automation flow you wish to clone and select the ... button under Actions. Select Clone Flow.
  3. You will now be in the Flow Editor for the cloned flow. Select the flow name at the top, which has (copy) at the end, and rename the flow.
Tip: If you have more than one Postscript store, then you will see Clone Flow to Another Shop beneath Clone in the Actions drop-down. If you have an automation flow you want to clone to another one of your stores, then select that store from the drop-down list. You can then switch to your other store, locate the copied automation flow, and make changes as needed.

Edit Cloned Automation Flow Properties

In this example, we have cloned an automation flow and want to change it so it is triggered when U.S. subscribers who signed up in the past 15 days click on a link.

  1. Rename your automation flow. Choose a new name that allows you to differentiate this automation from similar ones (if you have multiple welcome series automation flows, include the keyword or filter in the name).
  2. Select the Automation Properties box at the top of the automation flow. Change the automation flow Trigger event or property, if necessary. Tell Postscript what action should trigger this automation flow to run. Add a Trigger filter if necessary.
  3. Edit or define Subscriber filters. Subscriber filters allow merchants to further define which subscribers get enrolled in this automation flow. For example, an automation flow for subscribers who became subscribers within the last 15 days and are located in the United States.
  4. Set an Entry filter for how often a subscriber can enter the automation flow.
  5. Select a Cancellation trigger, if necessary. Tell Postscript when to take a subscriber out of the automation flow. For example, when they create an order.
  6. Select Update at the bottom of the Automation properties editor on the left. Then select the Save Changes button in the top right.

After updating the Automation Properties, adjust the messages and A/B Splits for the automation flow as needed before scheduling it
