Wherever you are in your list growth journey, Postscript’s Popup Editor makes website subscriber acquisition fast and easy. Use our code-free, responsive, drag-and-drop editor to create visually appealing desktop and mobile popups.

Postscript popups are a compliant and powerful way to convert site visitors to SMS subscribers so you can nurture them with a personalized SMS program throughout the customer lifecycle.

In this article, we guide you through how to create a mobile and desktop popup with Postscript’s new popup editor.

Create a Mobile or Desktop Popup

  1. From your Postscript Dashboard, select Acquisition. Then, select Popups.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the page, select Create.

  3. You will be directed to the Popup Template Library where you can choose from any of our professionally designed templates (Some templates may have a Recommended tag. These popups perform exceptionally well according to data we’ve collected).

  4. At the top of the editor, you will see the popup steps. By default, each template automatically includes:

    • A micro-yes step to grab the visitor’s attention and incentivize them to continue into the popup

    • The Onsite Opt-in phone collection and one-time password step

    • An email collection step

    • A thank you/completion step

    • And a Teaser which displays how the popup will look when minimized

  5. Each step can be dragged into a new order to match the flow you’d like to use

  6. At the top right of the editor, you will find a toggle button that allows you to switch between Mobile and Desktop views of your popup.

  7. In the next section, we'll guide you through how to manage the behavior, targeting, theme, and layers of your popup.

Customize Your Popup

At the bottom left of the editor, you will find button icons for Settings, Theme Styles, Layers, and Add Block. Let's walk through each.

Settings

  • Enter the Dialog Name which will be announced to visitors using screen readers for accessibility.

  • Enter a Pre-populated text message which will pre-populate in the viewer's SMS message app when they engage,

  • Choose to start in teaser mode.

  • Choose to close popup when clicking outside.

  • Select a popup cooldown period.

Message

The Message tab allows merchants to edit the text message that will be sent to a subscriber after opting in with a popup.

Theme Styles

Access Theme styles by selecting the paint icon on the bottom left. Merchants can make global changes here that will be reflected throughout each step of the popup, so you only have to make these changes once. Note that Mobile and Desktop images must be replaced separately due to the differing aspect ratios required within each.

Theme Styles also allow merchants to add custom fonts to popups.

  1. To add a custom font, navigate to the Text drop-down, and locate the Font field within Theme styles.

  2. Select + Add Font located at the top of the dropdown menu

  3. You will be prompted to add a link to a web-hosted font.

  4. Note: Accepted file types are .woff, .woff2, .ttf, and .otf. For more information on importing fonts, read this article.

Layers

Within Layers, easily navigate through each element of your popup and utilize the drag-and-drop functionality to move elements around.

If you are collecting emails, you will want to set up Email Forwarding.

  1. Navigate to your email collection step.

  2. Select Layers at the bottom left of your screen.

  3. Select Email input.

  4. At the top of the Navigation pane, you will see Settings.

  5. Ensure Forward to email app box is checked.

  6. Select your connected ESP in the Email app field.

  7. Select the email list from your selected email service provider you’d like the emails collected from this popup to be forwarded to.

Add Blocks

Add Blocks allows you to include additional elements, such as a text box, heading, image, button, email input, or container, to your design by dragging and dropping the desired element into your popup.

Once satisfied with the popup design and functionality, navigate to the activation toggle at the top right of your screen. Select the toggle to move it to the Active position. And you're all set to begin collecting subscribers with your Postscript popup!

How to Clone a Popup

Cloning a popup is a great way to duplicate an existing popup's design and settings, saving you time when creating a new popup. For example, you may want to clone a popup to use as a starting point for a seasonal campaign or to test a new variation without rebuilding from scratch.

To clone a popup, follow the steps below:

  1. From your Postscript Admin, navigate to List Growth and select Popups.

  2. Locate the popup you'd like to clone and select the three dots next to it.

  3. Select Clone.

  4. Rename the new popup.

  5. Select whether you'd like the new popup to be linked to the same automations as the original popup.

  6. Select Clone to save.
