Get Started with Automations

Automations let you sit back and relax while you drive new revenue. Automations are multi-stage communication that are triggered by a certain event – they're a great way to increase customer engagement and add a light-hearted feel to your store’s communication.


For this example, we’ll create an automation that lets your customer know that their first order has shipped.


  • Click the “Automations” tab on the left navigation

  • Then click the “Create Automation” button on the top right

  • Set a name for your automation

  • Change the automation trigger to “Order Fulfilled.” This means that the automation will begin when a user’s order has shipped.

  • We want to only send this automation when a user’s first order is fulfilled, so we will enable a “User Filter”

  • Choose the value “Number of Orders” as the property of the filter

  • Set the value equal to "1" to filter users with only one order

  • Make sure the “Cancellation Trigger” is not set for this particular automation. The cancellation trigger ends automations when a customer takes a specific action, such as placing another order.  

  • If you are creating an automation that needs a cancellation trigger, such as Abandoned Cart, you can add that here. Bear in mind that you can now have TWO cancellation triggers!

  • Click the “Save & Continue to Messages” button to edit the automation messages

  • First, we will change the automation to send 5 minutes after it is triggered (when the order is fulfilled)

  • Insert the {first_name} tag by clicking the “Insert Tag” button above the text box.

  • Add emojis by clicking the emoji face at the bottom right of the text box.

  • Be sure to add “Reply STOP to unsubscribe” to your message using the checkbox. This lets customers know that they can opt-out of text marketing at any time.

  • When you are done editing the text for your automation, double check it using the text preview on the right of the screen.

  • Send yourself a test by clicking the “Send Me A Test” button at the bottom of the page. Make sure everything is working correctly!

  • Edit the tag information in the test that you send to yourself and input your number to receive the test.

  • Once you have a send a test to yourself, be sure to save the automation.

  • Once you have saved your automation, click the “Enabled” toggle to start sending to your customers
