This article is essentially a walk-through of each step of creating your popup to collect for both email and SMS. Let's get started!
Keywords & your pop-up
The first thing you'll want to do is navigate to your Popup tab on your Postscript homepage. Click EDIT on the Mobile Popup, and from here, you'll see that your pop-up is connected to a Keyword.
The Keyword that you choose for your pop-up will determine what message is sent to your customer after they click on the "Get 10% Off" button and opt-in.
If your pop-up is offering 10% off, be sure that you're keyword is sending a 10% off coupon! In this example, the keyword is IGOR.
To ensure that the reply they receive has the correct language, navigate to the KEYWORD tab on the left the of the page. Then click on the keyword that you are associating your pop-up with.
On this page, you'll see the Reply your customer will receive after they activate the pop-up. The purple Reply box can be clicked and edited as needed. Be sure the coupon you add in this reply matches what you're offering in your pop-up.
If you want more information on how to edit and use KEYWORDS, check out this article.
Editing your pop-up
Now that you have your Keyword edited the way you'd like, go back to your Popup tab on the left of the page. Click EDIT on the Mobile Popup Option.
Pro Tip: On the right side of the screen, you'll see a preview of your popup as your customer will see it. You can toggle between the EMAIL, PHONE, and CLOSED options to see a preview of each of them as you're editing.
1.) Choose the Keyword you edited from the dropdown menu.
2.) Decide how you'd like to collect on this popup. You can choose Email and Phone or Phone Only.
3.) Decide how you'd like to collect phone numbers.
Your first option is Two Touch - This phone number collection requires users to send an auto-generated text from their phone, thereby verifying their phone number. If you choose this option, when the user clicks the "Get 10% Off" button on the popup, it will automatically open their SMS app on the phone with a pre-populated Text message (that you create in the last step). All they have to do is press SEND to opt-in.
Your second option is disabling Two Touch - This option allows the user to enter their phone number in the field on the pop-up (much like email) in order to subscribe. Please note that this option requires that they receive a "Reply Y to subscribe" text that they must respond to in order to subscribe. This is called a double-opt in.
4.) You can also filter which countries you would like to show the pop-up to by choosing from the dropdown menu on the Countries option.
It is important to note that the pop-up is optimized for US phone because of SMS deliverability.
5.) Choose Partial or Full pop-up size. Again, this is at your discretion! Obviously a full-size pop-up is more eye-catching, but a partial pop-up might be exactly what your customer base wants. (A full-size pop-up also tends to have better conversion rates.)
When you choose Full, you get several additional options for customization - so for the remainder of this how-to, we'll use the full-size option to help you understand all that you can do with your pop-up.
6.) The Pop-up Delay is exactly what it sounds like. How long do you want your customer to be on your homepage before the pop-up shows?
Suggested delay is 3 seconds. The longer the delay, the lower the conversion will be.
7.) You have the option to edit the Close Action as well. When a customer closes out of the pop-up, you can choose either Bubble or Exit.
Exit will make the pop-up disappear completely for the customer.
Bubble will minimize the pop-up to a very small version in the bottom left corner in case the customer changes their mind!
You can also edit the Bubble Text in the Close Action Text field!
8.) You can include or exclude the popup on specific pages using the popup targeting feature.
Simply include words from a specific URL and the popup will fire or not fire on pages and URLs that contain the same character strings. Be sure to list them with commas and no spaces between them.
You can upload a Logo Image that will show at the top of your popup. A .png file is a good choice here! Just upload a file from your computer.
You have a few options for your Backgound color/photo! If you choose to go with a color, you can utilize a HTML color code grabber (we use this site) to choose a branded color from an image. Insert the code here - or simply choose a default color!
You can also choose an image to upload. (500kb or less) When choosing a photo, remember to stay on brand!
You now have the option of choosing different fonts for your popup! Use the Font Dropdown to choose which style you'd like to use in your popup text.
Choose the Style of your button by selecting Rounded or Square from the Style dropdown. If you choose Rounded, you can choose the degree of roundness in pixels in the next option.
Depending on the background that you chose, you may decide to change the Primary Text Color, Disclaimer Text Color, as well as the Button Background Color and Button Text Color.
Those colors can be chosen from the default options or by entering the HTML color code as mentioned above.
EMAIL COLLECTION INTEGRATION
There are two things that can happen when collecting emails via the Postscript popup:
A.) All emails will be collected within our database. You can export that list by navigating to this page and clicking exported in the hyperlinked text.
You'll then be prompted to enter a date range for the export:
That export can be found on your Reports page. You can download the file directly from here.
b.) If you are integrated with Klaviyo, you can send the emails you collect directly into a Klaviyo list. After integrating with Klaviyo, click the Klaviyo Button & choose the list you want the emails to be collected in! (We will also collect them in our database as explained in option A of email collection)
EMAIL + PHONE COLLECTION CONTENT
The editing options for both EMAIL and SMS are the same in these sections. So you can use this guide for both or SMS only. Just remember to refer to the preview on the right side of the screen to see how your subscriber will be viewing the popup.
There are several phone/email options that you can edit. Our default is pictured, but you can change that to the verbiage that is in-line with your brand.
Pre-Headline Text is only available in the full-size pop-up. This is the beginning of your call to action and shows at the top of the popup text.
Headline Text is what will appear the largest on your Pop-up. Be sure the amount you're discounting is the same as the Keyword Reply you created earlier!
Post-Headline Text is only available for the full-size pop-up. It's the ending of your call to action and goes BELOW the Headline Text.
Button Text is the text that goes within the button that you customized earlier. This needs to be clear & direct. THIS is how your customer gets their discount!
Close Button Text is what will close the full-size pop-up for the customer.
This editing option will only be available if you chose the Two Touch option at the beginning of the popup editor.
This is the text that will pre-populate in their SMS app when a subscriber clicks the SUBSCRIBE button for SMS. Be sure to include the KEYWORD that you attached to this popup at the beginning. (IGOR in this example)
Be sure that the keyword is capitalized & there are spaces on either side!
This pop-up will show on phones and tablets up to 480px wide.
Postscript's pop-up is cookie-enabled and only shows up once per user. If someone is not seeing the pop-up, it's most likely because they've viewed it before! If you are testing, go into incognito mode on your phone to see the pop-up once again.
This is how your Mobile Popup will behave if you choose Two Touch + the email collection:
